How to play badminton
Pick a difficulty and press Start. A match is best of three games: each game goes to 11 points with a two-point lead, capped at 15. The winner of a point serves next. To serve, press any shot and the shuttle goes up from your side.
Move your racket with the arrow keys or WASD, or drag across the court on a phone. To hit, the shuttle has to be near your racket (the dashed circle) when you press a shot. The closer to the centre of the racket you hit, the better the stroke.
The smash (Space or F) sends the shuttle down hard, but if you hit it too late it turns into a lob. The lob (Z) sends it high and deep into the court. The drop shot (X) falls just behind the net. You win the point when the shuttle lands on the computer’s side, or when the computer hits it into the net or out. The record keeps the longest rally, counted in shots.
Frequently asked questions
How do I smash?
Wait until the shuttle is high, close to your racket, and press Space (or F) at the top of its arc. The closer you hit it to the centre of the racket, the stronger and more accurate the smash.
Which shot should I use to win the point?
Smash when the shuttle is high to force a mistake, and use the drop shot when the computer is far from the net, since the shuttle lands right behind it. The lob takes the shuttle to the back of the court and buys time when you are out of position.
How does the difficulty work?
On easy the computer misses a lot and is slow to move. On hard it positions itself better, smashes more often and makes fewer mistakes.
