How to play Ping Pong

Move the mouse or drag your finger from side to side and your red paddle follows. It returns the ball on its own when it arrives, so the secret is to be in the right place. The ball can only be returned after it bounces once on your side of the table.

Where you aim depends on where the ball hits the paddle: in the middle it comes back straight, at the tip it goes off at an angle toward the corner (and can fly out!). If the paddle is moving when it hits, the ball picks up spin and curves. Pull the mouse or your finger up at the right moment (or hold the up arrow) to smash a faster, lower shot.

On your serve, tap the table or press Space: the ball bounces first on your side and then on the opponent’s. Serves change every 2 points and, from 10–10 on, every point. You win the point when the opponent misses the table, hits the net or lets the ball bounce twice. The first to 11 points with a 2-point lead wins.

Frequently asked questions

How do I make the ball curve in Ping Pong?

With spin turned on, move the paddle sideways at the moment of contact: the ball leaves spinning and curves in the air, and also drifts a little when it bounces. The faster the movement, the bigger the spin. You can turn spin off in the menu before a game.

Which computer level should I choose?

On Easy the computer moves slowly and misses more. On Normal it plays faster and aims far from you. On Hard it almost never misses, puts spin on its shots and requires smashes and tight angles to beat it.

Why didn’t the game end at 11 points?

Just like official table tennis, you must win by 2 points. If the score reaches 10–10, play continues until someone is 2 points ahead, and the serve then changes every point.
