How to play Match 3
Drag a piece left, right, up or down (or tap two neighboring pieces) to swap them. A swap only counts if it makes a line of 3 or more matching pieces horizontally or vertically; if it doesn’t, the pieces slide back.
Matched pieces disappear, the ones above fall down and new ones drop in from the top. If the fall creates more matches, you get a chain reaction, and every new wave multiplies your points. Matching 4 makes a striped piece that clears a whole row or column; an L or T shape makes a bomb that blows up the pieces around it; and 5 in a row makes a rainbow piece that, swapped with any piece, wipes out every piece of that color.
Each level has a set number of moves and a score goal, shown on the green bar. Beat the goal to unlock the next level, which gets harder. If you sit idle for a while, a hint shows a possible move, and when there are no moves left the board shuffles itself.
Frequently asked questions
What happens if I swap two special pieces?
They both go off together. A rainbow swapped with another rainbow clears the entire board; striped pieces and bombs swapped with each other explode at the same time and can clear a huge area.
Is my progress saved?
Yes. The highest level you’ve unlocked is saved in this browser, and the game picks up from there on your next visit. You can also restart from level 1 at any time.
