Mahjong Online

Classic Mahjong solitaire in your browser: find matching pairs of free tiles until the table is clear. Every game is built to be solvable.

Tiles: 144Time: 0:00Free pairs: 0

How to play Mahjong

The goal is to remove all 144 tiles from the table, always two at a time. Tap a tile and then another identical one: if both are free, they leave the board.

A tile is free when no tile sits on top of it and either its left side or its right side is empty. Identical tiles form a pair, with two exceptions: any flower matches any other flower, and any season matches any other season.

Start with the tiles on top and at the ends of the rows, which unlock more moves. If you get stuck, use a hint, undo the last move or shuffle the remaining tiles. Choose between the classic Turtle, the Pyramid, the Towers and the Cross.

Frequently asked questions

Is every Mahjong game solvable?

Here, yes. Each game is built backwards, placing the pairs in spots that would be free. Even so, a wrong choice in the middle can lock the game, and then undoing or shuffling is the answer.

What do I do when there are no free pairs left?

Tap “Shuffle”: the remaining tiles swap places, keeping the positions, and the new arrangement is built so that a way out still exists. You can also undo moves to go back to a better point.

Is this the same as the four-player Mahjong?

No. Table Mahjong is played by four people, like a card game. This is the solitaire version, for playing alone, which became famous on computers with its turtle-shaped layout.
