Yukon Solitaire

Yukon Solitaire is a cousin of classic Solitaire, but with no stock pile: every card is already on the table and you can move whole groups, even when they’re out of order.

How to play Yukon Solitaire

The goal is to move all 52 cards to the 4 foundation piles at the top, one for each suit, from Ace up to King. There’s no stock: the first column starts with 1 face-up card and the other six have 1 to 6 face-down cards, with 5 face-up cards on top.

The big difference is how you move: you can grab any face-up card and take everything on top of it along for the ride, even if those cards aren’t in sequence. The only rule is that the bottom card of the group lands on a card one rank higher and of the opposite color, like a black 8 on a red 9.

Only a King (with whatever is on top of it) can fill an empty column. When a face-down card ends up on top of a column, it flips over automatically. Tapping a card sends it to the best spot, and the “Undo” button takes back your last move.

Frequently asked questions

How is Yukon different from classic Solitaire?

The columns build down the same way, alternating colors, but Yukon has no stock pile and you can move any group of face-up cards, even a messy one. In classic Klondike Solitaire you can only move runs that are already in order.

Is Yukon Solitaire hard?

It’s harder than draw-1 Klondike, since there’s no stock to help you out and lots of cards start hidden. On the other hand, everything is already on the table, so good planning makes a huge difference.

What’s the best Yukon strategy?

Focus on the columns with the most face-down cards, since they hide the most moves. Only open up an empty column when you have a King ready to move into it.
