War Card Game Online
The classic War card game in your browser: flip, compare, and when the cards tie, it is war. Play until someone has the whole deck or pick a shorter game.
You against the computer: the higher card wins, ties mean war. Choose how long the game lasts.
How to play War
The deck is shuffled and split in half: 26 cards for you and 26 for the computer. Nobody looks at their cards. Aces are high, then King, Queen, Jack and 10 down to 2. Suits don’t matter.
Hit Flip (or tap your deck, or press Space) and both players turn over their top card. The higher card takes both, and they go to the bottom of the winner’s deck. If the two cards tie, it’s war: each player puts 3 cards face down and 1 face up, and the higher face-up card takes the whole pile. Another tie means another war.
In the classic game you keep going until one player has all 52 cards. For a quicker match, choose “First to 10 rounds” or “First to 25 rounds”: every battle you win counts as a round. Turn on Auto play to let the cards flip themselves, at normal or fast speed.
Frequently asked questions
What if I don’t have enough cards for a war?
If you have fewer than 4 cards when a war starts, you put down all but your last card face down and fight with that last one. If you have no cards left at all, you lose the war and the game.
Can a game of War go on forever?
With fixed card order it could loop, so here the cards you win are added to your deck in random order, and every game ends sooner or later. A full game usually takes a few hundred battles — that’s why the first-to-N-rounds mode exists.
Are there other ways to play War?
Lots of families play with just 1 card face down in a war instead of 3, and some make the Ace the lowest card. In France the game is called Bataille, and in Germany it’s Krieg. The rules here follow the most common US version.
