Drag a peg or tap it and then the green hole · keyboard: arrow keys and Enter.
How to play peg solitaire
The board starts full of pegs, with just one empty hole. Each move is a jump: a peg leaps over a neighbor (horizontally or vertically, never diagonally) and lands in an empty hole right after it. The peg that was jumped is removed from the game.
Drag the peg to the destination hole, or tap it and then the hole marked in green. The goal is to be left with a single peg. On the 33-hole English board, a perfect win means ending with that last peg exactly in the center.
Made a mistake? Use “Undo” as many times as you like. If you get stuck, tap “Hint”: the game searches for a solution from the current position and shows the next jump. On the 37-hole European board, the challenge starts with the gap a little above the center, and the goal is still to leave one peg.
Frequently asked questions
Does peg solitaire have a solution?
Yes. On the 33-hole English board, starting with the center empty, you can finish with a single peg in the center in 31 jumps. The secret is to clear one arm of the cross at a time and not leave isolated pegs in the corners.
What is the difference between the English and European boards?
The English board is cross-shaped with 33 holes. The European (or French) board has 37 holes, with four extra holes in the inner corners of the cross. On the European board, no game that starts with a single hole can finish with the last peg in the center.
How does the hint work?
The game solves peg solitaire from the position you are in and shows the next jump in yellow. If there is no solution from there, it tells you, and you can undo a few moves to try another path.
