Kings in the Corner
A relaxed solitaire-style card game for 2 to 4 players: build piles down in alternating colors around the deck, put Kings in the corners and be the first to empty your hand.
Choose how many computer players to face. First to empty their hand wins!
How to play Kings in the Corner
Each player gets 7 cards. The rest of the deck goes in the middle, and 4 cards are turned face up next to it, one on each side (north, east, south and west). The four corner spaces start empty and are only for Kings.
At the start of your turn you draw one card. Then you can make as many plays as you like: put a card on any pile if it is one rank lower and the opposite color (a black 8 on a red 9), put a King in an empty corner, move a whole side pile onto another pile when its bottom card fits, or play any card into an empty side space.
When you can’t (or don’t want to) play any more, tap “End turn”. The first player to get rid of every card wins. If the deck runs out and nobody can play for a full round, the player with the fewest cards wins.
Frequently asked questions
Can a King be played on one of the side piles?
A King can go into an empty side space, but it’s usually better in a corner: corners are only for Kings, and a King on the side blocks that space because nothing can be moved onto it.
Is there a scoring version of Kings in the Corner?
Yes. In a popular variant, when someone goes out the others score penalty points for cards left in hand (often 10 for a King and 1 for everything else) and the game is played to 25 or more points. Here each game is a single race to empty your hand.
Why should I move piles around?
Moving a whole side pile onto another pile frees that side space, and you can then fill it with any card from your hand. It’s the best way to get rid of awkward cards.
